My Last Blog

Life

Hey guys and gals, I have a very sad announcement to make. Today will be my last day as a Web star at the Marin city library. Applying to this job and becoming a web star is by far one of my best decisions I have ever made in my entire life. It all started off towards the end of my freshman year in high school. I was in a community advisors class just talking to home about being stressed out and not having any money to afford new clothing or shoes. We talked and talked about jobs I could apply to, keep in mind I'm only 15 years old at the time so trying to find a part time job at that age was extremely hard.  After searching for about 20mins for a bunch of jobs we were almost ready to call it quits. Midway of me shutting down the computer my community advisor stopped me. He had caught a glimpse of the library in Marin city hiring young students in high school. At first I was very hesitant about applying and having to work at a library in my community but I did it anyway.  About two weeks later I got a call about coming in for a interview, It was the most nervous situation of my life. But I ended up getting the job of course. Being a kid from Marin City, growing up in poverty, barely food on the table, no father with little to no good role models in my area. It was definitely easy to follow down the wrong path. At the time of me first getting the call with the news of being hired, I was chilling outside with the wrong people doing the wrong things everyday. I truly believe that working here at the library saved my life from going in the wrong direction. The people here welcomed me in, gave me knowledge that I never knew about, but most importantly they gave me hope of there being more than meets the eye. I have had some of my most memorable experiences at this job. I have met some of my closest friends at library while working here. This was is more than just a job or work to me, this place here at the library is more like another home for me,  a place where I can come and feel welcomed, safe and comfortable. There is not a day that goes by where I wake up distraught about coming here. The Marin City Library will truly always be a home for me. I want to say thank you to the Entire Library Staff for always being patient, kind and blessing me with the knowledge I have today. I also want to give a special Thanks to my Boss and Mentor Etienne Douglas for seeing something in me, never quitting on me and giving me the knowledge that I will now take into the next phase of my life and soon pass down to my generation of family. I appreciate and love you all. Until next time!!
